Watching this video:
Guess what? A YouTube guru says he (always a he) knows musicians who are talented but will never “succeed.”
Please leave a nasty comment on his video about how successful you are without any talent.
Why’s it always older white guys, (like me but nothing like me)?
Some men feel it’s their job to recognize “potential” in people and push them toward that direction. Fucking stop, for the love.
Y’all do realize, “success” is even more subjective than music? What if your version of success isn’t part of my version’s gameplan? I hate listening to folks talk to a camera who have nothing to say. This would be one such case.

What is success to me?
Look, if you think it’s your job to tell me about success you have work to do. I’m already over that hump. Success is simply living, EOS.

“Talent isn’t enough!” For who?
The main thing these idiots tell you is “talent isn’t enough.”
I beg to differ! Sure I want to do stuff. Sure I like to jam. But if I didn’t have talent, I’d probably be into other things. There’s a movement in the music world that says talent doesn’t exist, anyone gets there with hard work. This movement is catapulted to maximum myth level by white guys on YouTube. Bonkers.
If you don’t “believe” in talent, go to more shows. Jeebus.
Talent is not an optional thing to “believe” in. It’s in the DNA. It’s in all your life’s experiences. It’s the exact thing folks want to hear. It’s relatable. It’s impressive. It may even have serious thought behind it too!
Talent is your toolbox. Folks who say “it isn’t everything” only mean it’s not everything to them. For white guys on YouTube, who cares?

Everyday I’m hustlin’.
Folks talk about hustle and grind. Look, that’s something different than making music you like and entertaining yourself with it. That’s like, starting a bad business. Umm, not into that. But I am into sharing stuff I make that works for me. No hustle and grind required for that. Talent? Yes.

Warning: trigger word.
I’m going to use a word here that triggers, but it’s the only word I can think of. Musician white guys who talk about hustle to make their head big make you feel “entitled” to earn money with your music. No one likes that and you should stop. You are entitled to create, if someone else likes it, great! That’s it.
The world doesn’t exist to rob from. If you robbed a whole careers worth of money off one person, you’d go to jail. But if it’s a little from everyone, you’d get praised by white guys on YouTube. I say, there’s no difference. You aren’t reading this so I feel good. I’m trying to start conversations and remember my thinking with this thing.

Billionaires bitches!
Billionaires make money this way, by the way. Hell, the whole reason the internet sucks now is paygates, passwords, and micropayments. Why be like that? We all know it sucks.
The billionaires have managed to convince folks that shaking folks down for a login and a monthly payment is a viable career. I think it stinks.
This is all old hat but folks keep saying “TaLeNt iSnT EnOuGh.”
Hustle all you want. I hope you’re successful. But I’m about music. I’m not about fleecing my friends. I’m not into trying to be famous or rich. I’m just a songwriter. No big. For money I do other shit. No big too.
