From the depths..
This one has been coming a while. You could say it’s taken my whole life to write it.
I grew up on classic rock. Between real parents and step parents, classic rock was the thing. There were classic rock radio stations. It was a great time. But it’s over.
What is this? Assisted living?
Classic rockers are old and dying. This ain’t bad. It happens. But the entitlement reeking from these crotchety men is a huge turn off.
Not only do old rockers get online or on the TV and talk about what they deserve, they expect us to feel sorry for them that music is so different. They don’t realize they’re the reason for that.
Old & famous? Are you bitchy about it?
See, old famous super rich rockers hoarded from fans and musicians who helped them. Now they’re pissed they’re mortals. I’m not sympathetic.
How to do it.
The ones who did it “right” invested in protégées, built studios, schools, or helped people. But they’re not the ones complaining about the state of music. The ones complaining took it all, and now they’re pissed about it.
Recently..Old Gene.
I’ve even heard folks like Gene Simmons say “don’t make music. There’s no money in it.” How does he even say that? If it wasn’t for music, he’d be a normal republican.
Clapton.
Eric Clapton is pretty outspoken on how crappy the music industry is. That’s amazing to me. How in the world? Does he think we don’t think he’s rich from music? Moreover, he’s rich from playing the only three chords he likes.
These old asshats, many of whom married and dated teenagers, still seem to think they’re playing for them. Maybe they’d be happier playing for the fans who put them where they are and helping other musicians get there, I don’t know. Works for me. I’m not even rich!

Floyd.
Read a disturbing article about Roger Waters in Rolling Stone yesterday about what a dick he is. I loved Pink Floyd. However, he and Dave Gilmour have done a great job of helping me delete them from my library. They just piss me off now. Can’t help it.🤷. I thought they were wonderful for a long time. Now I just hear whiny titty-babies.

Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin, oh my god. Talk about entitlement. Jimmy Page dated a kid, got into the occult, bought a few mansions, and made a second career bitching about the old days not being like the new days. That’s just one member. Plant sings with Krauss now and it’s alright, but his lyrics still are about as deep as a cookie sheet. Fine if you like it, but not where my heart’s at. To be honest, except a few years of high-school, I just never really liked Zeppelin. This one, it’s actually their music too. lol.

Beatles.
Paul McCartney is revered in the music world for his music, but what’s his message? “Be mega-wealthy and slightly unhappy?”I’m actually glad he doesn’t help the scene much currently. The Beatles overall helped, I think..not counting their hoarding. But he tried with a label, folks killed themselves. So, carry on Paul, I guess. Now, I can’t even listen to the Beatles.

Springsteen.
I do my best ”jeezus chrise” every time I see this asshat’s name. He may not be bitchy, per sé, but liberal billionaires are still billionaires. For an industry that pays as little as music does, and as rich as he is, seems like he’d be in a position to help folks out for a long time in music. Instead he’s capitalizing again off the plight of our country being run by criminals. He needs a mirror, not an audience. Hoarder. EOS.

Stones.
Don’t get me started on Mick Jagger and Keith Richards type entitlement. Silver-porn. Old men, young women, it’s always been that way with them.

Dylan
I actually struggled with this one. But the Reagan movie sealed the deal. Coincidentally, Gene Simmons was also on that soundtrack. No thanks! Reagan may have been better than Trump, but we are splitting hairs at that point. Reagan enabled folks like Trump. That’s pretty bad too. Dylan can’t like Reagan and do a song for propaganda and get my listens. Too hard for me. Thank goodness I can play guitar and write words in a spiral. Don’t need him anyway.

“It worked for me but don’t try it.”
When a rich rockstar bitches about the music industry, they don’t say “it was good for me but it sucks for you because I got it all,” but that’s what they’re saying. I don’t feel anything but animosity toward them with that message. It ruins their music. It ruins them.
The wealth in the indie scene is real, but it ain’t in cash.
Fortunately there’s more indies and DIY’s than I’ll ever hear. I listen to “new” folks every day. I talk to down-to-earth musicians all the time. I even work with a bunch. But we don’t register to these assclowns who still dominate airwaves and interviews with messages of how the music industry sucks. Maybe the one they made sucks. But the indie-scene is thriving. I’ve got thousands of downloads from around the world from folks like me, or nothing like me! It’s marvelous.

A key thought and a solution:
Should you ever come into a lot of money, learn how to give some away responsibly. Think about fortifying the future and helping the now. As good as rich folks are at making money, they suck at spending it. It’s probably a rich person class, or someone you hire. You can afford that now! I think this will help you be happy, despite being rich.
In summary..
If classic rockers were serious about improving the state of music, they’d part with some of their hoards and use their name to endorse the next generation. But they’re usually just serious about bitching.
Always exceptions..
Also – The Kinks still rule! They even get cooler the more I listen. So we’re looking at a “case by case” basis, the story with every blanket statement like “I can’t do classic rock.” The Kinks and Lovin’ Spoonful, off the top of my head, still fucking great.

Here’s a tune!
(I have a few “classic rock” sounds to choose from. So I’ll pick a positive one for today. I wrote this for a friend in need. He didn’t have much use for it so I stole it back. Now it cheers me up.)
