One thing that bothers me about folks like Rick Rubin and Neil Diamond, (as much as it pains me to say anything about Neil Diamond).
Neil Diamond said in making his new album with Rick Rubin that a musician’s worst fear is to be forgotten. Fortunately, I don’t have that problem. Maybe it means I’m not a musician. Fine, whatever. I’ll take it if it means not worrying about that dumb shit. I love me some Neil Diamond, don’t get me wrong. But that’s dumb. I’d have to tell him so, after a hug.
I’ve always felt those kinds of thoughts self-indulgent and not realistic. This is earth, unless you invent something hugely transformative, or are lucky enough to be a pharaoh, you have at most 300 years (historically speaking) or so before you’re obliterated from history, including Neil Diamond (so far). Accept it. Jeebus.

Living forever isn’t in “having done,” it’s in “doing.”
For me, I enjoy visiting with musicians. I enjoy the music “club.” I find I feel easy around a lot of folks who also play music. This latest Djembe Funk jam is for them. It is not so I live forever. It’s to have more fun right now. No one lives forever, anyway. Seems like I heard that somewhere.
Maybe Neil forgot that most musicians are forgotten before they die. Maybe it’s a little insensitive to be the god of pop/rock and complain about mortality and legacy? Dear Neil, you won, bro. Pass the torch if you want to live even longer. Tupac said it’s not just about who you inspire, it’s about who is inspired by who you inspire. Neil, for the love, you’ll never know your impact on others. Your beautiful hokey music (I love) got me through some tough times. Act like it! (He talked to a chair in a song, hokey. Can’t help it.🤷. I love it, though.)

Dear rich rockstars, how’d all that hoarding work out for you?
These rock stars are finding out that hoarding still leaves one empty inside. There might be many benefits to taking on protégé’s, as is normal in music. It’s not normal for celebrities, but it is normal for music.

“Hanging on to nothing” is a recurring thought to me. But some folks call that “legacy.”
I try to give it all to one person at a time I work with or sing to. I find the more I keep in the tank, the harder it is to sleep. What am I hanging on to? Why? Most times fear governs my behavior if I’m not aware of it. I think those questions to myself are important.
Enough about me and Neil. It’s a release day.

Raw Files:
Some folks may hear this tune and think they’d like to hear raw files. I agree. If I really wanted to hear this mic, I’d want to hear raw tracks. These aren’t completely raw, they’re just as raw as I was able to revert to. Probably some silence removed and maybe an effect or two, but no where near album ready. This file might help more than the song does if you’re seriously looking to score an awesome mic for 20 bucks.
A link to google drive with the raw wavs.
Mixing:
I am not a great mixer, yet. I do my best. But it’s hard. There’s a lot to learn. I enjoy it, I enjoy listening. I’ll get better. I’m way better than I was even a short time ago. But admittedly, I’m not “there” yet. Work in progress.

80s kids
Speaking of mixing and this mic, it would be a shame to not mention my friend Jaime. He and his wife, Shannon, are fabulous musicians. He’s a mixer who gets it. In many ways, I hope I’m Jamie someday. He told me about this mic, he was right to do it. Those kinds of folks are supremely valuable in my life. They “get” me. Thanks, Jaime and Shannon!
(Here is the song and you can get a code from GetMusic.fm click here. A whole weekend of fun is wrapped up in a few minutes. Enjoy. We sure did.)
If this was around when I was a kid..
I enjoy this jam because this microphone would have been a game-changer for me growing up a musical, but pretty poor kid who could not get gear I wanted like mics. This would have preserved a lot of thoughts from back then. Perhaps only I would find them interesting, but even that’s worth 20 bucks.

Let’s talk cheap gear!
I hope someone digs the mic here, the song is a bonus celebration, really. The song served its purpose already by providing me and Keri a fabulous musical weekend together. But I’d love to know if I got you checking out cheap mics. Email: [email protected]

All about dollar bills.
I feel it’s important to share something I’ve learned can save a lot of folks money. That’s what this is. Maybe your kid needs a mic, 20 bucks. Maybe you want a podcast or to do interviews on a budget, 20 bucks budget okay for the mic? Maybe your SM 57 broke or got stolen and you are fine with a 20 dollar replacement. There’s lots of reasons to consider a great mic, especially at this price. I’m here to tell you, it’s worth it. Thanks.🙏
