We play for numbers, occasionally people too.

Crowds used to be fun for me. Now I like small groups to play music for. Money is always an issue. Billionaires notice crowds, not small groups. That’s why.

What’s with all the crowds?

On social media back when I used it, and on BandCamp, even in DAWs and art projects, there’s a tendency to get the numbers right. Billionaires like big numbers. If you want to live these days and eat nicely, you need a billionaire’s attention for a split second. You get their attention with big numbers. They probably don’t even listen to your song. The numbers give them what they need.

I like to play for people. Even one. I don’t like math. I don’t like billionaires. I don’t like crowds. Also, fuck the systemic issues of paying folks fairly so billionaires can leap closer to trillionaires, robbing us in the process.

What is a rock star to you?

If your song makes some real person’s playlist or ears for a while, win. Period. You won by touching someone. Art is like that. It’s my goal to make something special for someone, instead of something tolerated by everyone.

Love it or hate it, money makes life easier. That works well for folks who collect money.

Money.

I understand we need money to live. I contend we also need art. Folks above my pay grade have to figure that out. I don’t see how I can live without either. Don’t know why art is related to money, but then again, healthcare is..education… politics…so.. I guess it makes sense.

If someone with big money wants you, it’s only because they see potential in you for them making money. I avoid those people. My songs aren’t for them. My songs are for folks with a pulse.

Money part two.

We complain about AI, but who is building it? It’s not poor folks. I hope alarm bells go off. See, billionaires are trying to save a buck. They’ll start with artistic endeavors, every time.

This is often the view of an artist.

For the people in back.

Even the nazi flag is design art. Maybe the swastika is the most popular design of all time, more than the cross! If the fascists now are anything like the fascists then, they got a lid on art. They don’t need help. Why help them?

If you are playing to make numbers go up, please consider the fact you are really narrowing your focus towards billionaires. Big numbers get their attention so they can take advantage of you too. Why do that? Isn’t your music for normal people? Mine is.

Sometimes it’s priorities.

Everyone has tough decisions in life. Many artists face the decision of playing for a living or playing for people. I choose people. I do other stuff for a living. I don’t mind giving the billionaires time at work as much as I mind singing for them. So I try to shoot my music like an arrow to folks who might need it. I don’t think about numbers anymore. I recommend.

think outside of the box
A little bit of this goes a long way.

Worth thinking about…

When a billionaire likes you, they see profit. What does that make you to them? Yep, a commodity.

If a music fan likes you and they play you in their headphones or on their phone during a smoke break, that’s what makes you a star. ⭐️

Glad we squared that up.

Return to home.

Free codes for a song with Dino DiMuro (while they last), my friend and a musician I like a lot. Dino is the honeybadger of music. He don’t give a shit. I love honeybadgers.
