The story of “The Kid” by The Kintners.

Not a kid anymore. But purple lighting helps.

It started out rough, much better now.

I lived a turbulent and rollercoaster life starting out. Couldn’t always be this fine display of sanity and morals you see before you, nay, I have been a hoodlum and a creep among other things. I had issues. It took me a while to get acclimated to this place.

I suffered some unfortunate abuse early on that woke me up, made me come online, so to speak. There’s no memory of the blissful part of childhood, only being awake to how awful people can be.

This is me at Niagara Falls. Photo by dad.

The effects of abuse are many, this is just one..

When this happens to folks, it can throw things out of whack when they become adults, especially adults with kids, in my opinion. My kids taught me how young I was at the time, but they weren’t equipped to teach me about behavior issues I had picked up.

When I think back to myself as a kid, it takes real work to think of myself as a kid. I have a tendency to think of myself as I am now, just a long time ago.

Here I am in Central America. Photo by dad.

Have you got old photographs?

That’s why I try to keep pictures of the boy I was. They help me separate the me now from the me then. That kid in the photograph had it tough. I get to wanting to do something nice for him after looking at him a while.

One of my favorite things about doing music is I get to help myself process stages or phases I’m going through. I think they call that catharsis. My music zone is generally focused on improving. That’s not a bad way to be. It’s not even a bad thing to “believe” in, “improving.”

That’s entertainment!

When I was a boy, I liked Broadway. It was fun to revisit that vibe.

Here you go, kid. Good job surviving. No notes.

I got to pilot a boat in Guatemala as a teenager. Was a great day.
The orchestral elements were provided by Andy Hartshorn, the bass was Mikey J, Adam with mixing. Thanks, gentlemen. Great work.

But that’s not all!

We have an old song called “Hudson River Blues.” We reprised with the orchestration used in “The Kid.” I love the stage vibes and can see someone singing it and a choreography to it in my imagination when I hear it. That kid might have dug this one too. So we tossed it in.

My dad, Max, took the photos in this video. I love his eyes for photography. He’s terrific.

Return to home.

My mother and me, (not a recent photo).
