Rant: Don’t let folks tell you what is cool. As an artist, that’s actually your job.

He gets to do what he does because what he does is cool. He is actually the one who determines that.

What is it this time, Kelly?

There’s a local blog that won’t cover stuff because bands aren’t on social media. They need us to share the blog. If I can’t tell who is helping who, I’ll pass anyway.

If someone requires you to share them on social media for them to be a local blog that talks about musicians, they are not in it to help musicians. These folks are helping themselves. And I don’t need that kind of mooching. If you are trying to get something from covering art besides telling your friends and followers what you like, I do not need you to tell me what is cool. You obviously don’t know.

Coffee and a book? Sign me up, please.

At least with me, if I say I like you.. I like you.

Let me tell you something. It’s important for me to make sure folks know I share what I like. It may be kooky, it may be stupid, it me be out of touch, it may not even be in English, but I feel it. It’s honest. Even if it isn’t mine, I am excited for friends to hear it. That’s it. All I get from it. And that’s okay.

Artistic endeavors and fun with friends to me are not motivated by likes, thumbs up, money, popularity. I want to make and talk about art. If I wanted money, I wouldn’t have picked music to begin with. I’ve known my whole life there’s no money in it. How could there be when everyone has a finger in the pie and they’re telling musicians how to represent themselves and their music?

Old asses. Get it?

The damn old ass rockers on youtube.

All the old ass classic rockers on YouTube actually robbed a ton of money from their fellow musicians and even fans and they’re the first ones that tell you “there’s no money in music.” It’s because they took it all.

If I like music, it has nothing to do with the band’s social media. It has to do with what comes out the speakers. Unless you agree, I’m not interested in your write-ups.

Fallstown Fuse. I will not be applying. I will also encourage folks to think twice before doing so.

An example, locally.

This outfit interviewed us for an EP a while back. We had social media, didn’t know it was a requirement. Wouldn’t have done it if we did. I think artists get to make those decisions for themselves. I did not know I was going along with their dumb policy by having a social media. They can go f*ck themselves.

About Facebook….(FYI)

Dear Fallstown Fuse,

Facebook isn’t cool, alright? You shouldn’t be their marketers. You should advertise for local artists you claim to love. How much does Facebook pay you for all that publicity?

I hate people.

Return to home.

I’m Kelly. I really don’t hate people. I like visiting with them and coffee. But they make it so hard sometimes.
