“Want to help me make a record?”
I’ve been asked to produce on a local record. There’s a troubadour here in town who has enlisted me to help him sound like a full band on tape. He’s very folk, jazzy style. I’m nearly done with the first tune. This is what I’ve always wanted to do.
A very happy day producing music.
I know sometimes when I write I sound unhappy. This is not one of those times. This person is trusting me to do what I love to do more than anything. He has confidence in me. This is all great stuff.
I’ve wanted to produce music like I’m doing now for most of my adult life, and all of my childhood. To get to do it now, with everything that’s going on, lifesaver. Every day.
Yesterday I was in the music room all day playing drums, fretless bass, the Gretsch, and mixing. It was all in service. Service is like a bonus for time spent on a project. Any time a musician thinks I’ve helped them present an idea or song, I feel great. I know they liked it by how they show it. It makes me feel really good. What I go for. I want them to feel happy they asked me.

One of my favorite music producing types.
Producing music has many styles and there are a lot of mentors in the professional world to choose from. I’ve always been fond of T Bone Burnett as a producer. He has a remarkable ability to put listeners in places. With T Bone, you might be going back in time to a specific point. You might be in a certain place geographically. One way this is achieved is by making everything sound “together.” No hiccups. I go for that.
Hands on producing music
For me, producing is hands on. I am attempting the gift wrapping of your idea. Each client is a new blank slate. No one gets what the last person got. I think it sounds much better trying to clear my head between projects and doing what the song wants, not what I have lead vocal preset to.
I enjoy the work and am in my element when I’m doing it. I’m glad for the work.
Need a hand on a song or music project?
If I can be of service helping you out with audio presentations, please gimme’ a holler, I absolutely love doing it. [email protected]
Let’s talk about money really quick. When I say I like helping, that doesn’t mean I like raking musicians over coals because I think I’m hot shit. Needing to spend time producing music projects, I don’t feel motivated by how profitable the music business is at the moment. I feel motivated by getting to do what I love to do; produce music. If you don’t have any money, but you feel you have strong songs, I’m into it. Gimme’ holler.
For me it’s about spending the time doing what I like and feel good at.
I have time. Loads of it. I’m willing to donate my time to help with putting songs out for folks. All this is. I’ve worked in teams, solo, I’ve done it all from writing to production to performance. I can be of good service to the right songsters out there.
The bonus element of service.
I feel like service is important to me. It literally helps me feel good. Music helps me feel good too. It occupies me, keeps me out of trouble. You’d be doing me a favor too if you contacted me about a song or a record, jingle or background music.. No shame in that. I enjoy it more than anything. And right now, I want more.
Thanks, return to home.
