As a musician I see a lot of debate about which era of the days of yore were the best for rock and roll. I think we do a disservice to the great music of today when we do that. Now is the time for great music.
Were the 60’s great for music? Possibly. But they were also great for protest. I think now is the time for protest. Now is the time for the “greatest” music.
There’s an old black and white Stanley Kubrick film. A funny line I remember from it is, “Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here! This is a war room!”

Now is the time to act.
I am not a huge Kubrick fan. However, I like what was pointed out here. If Trump saw that movie, I sure can’t tell. He is making a “Department of War.” Every comedian, musician, newscaster, journalist, and popular personality, (let alone..politician), should be very loud with how ridiculous that is. And dangerous!

Now is the time for reason.
I say dangerous because it’s hard to imagine the mindset of someone wanting to go to work for “the department of war.” I kinda’ think that person shouldn’t work anywhere.
War is not a goal. War is a failure. Every single time. Historically. Guess what? We’re failing.
Unless you like massive casualties and PTSD, I’d lay off the war talk. There’s nothing good about it. It’s a three-letter word for “killing eachother.” How can that be good?

Now is the time for protest.
So if you’re in a creative slump I urge you to spend some time with war on your mind. If your feelings hit our radar about war, if you’re a normal person, that’s probably a good message. The 60’s didn’t have a president Trump. Didn’t have billionaires, or internet! We need new protest songs and art. Right now is your moment. Now is the time you budding protest artists have been waiting for. You’re needed.
Trump wins every time you blow him or his supporters off and give them a “whatever.” They consider that permission from you. Do not give it to them.
“Talking Government.”

Zach King and I made an album together back when Trump was elected the first time in 2016. There was some protest music on it. Was called “Upstate of Mind,” on our BandCamp as “Upstate Revisited.”
Zach wrote this tune I’ll share here. I think he’s a talented protest folk singer. Was an honor to work with him. He’s a good guy.
We got a lot of mileage out of the protest tunes on that record. I recommend that experience. Not only do the listeners need it, I think the artists do too. Thanks for listening.
