Jack Casady Epiphone Signature Bass Demo Notes

I have had this beauty of a bass for a bit. I have used it on a few recordings. I have played it direct, direct to pa, or amp. Works fine everywhere. I love its tone. You can hear what it is made of. That is not very common among electric instruments in its range. I had a Gibson bass and took it back once this arrived. Didn’t need a worse sounding bass. haha.

Maybe you don’t know Jack Casady. He played bass in an old band called Jefferson Airplane. He also played bass in a band called Hot Tuna. He’s a great bassist, no stranger to protest too. I love what I know of the guy.

The sound samples:

The Jack Casady only has one pick up. But it does have a “varitone” switch. I made samples of each switch setting.

A lot of basses get the job done. But I find this one inspiring me to push it lately. It feels great, has a variety of tones, and looks cool. Can’t ask for more than that, in my opinion.

Verdict:

This bass is a semi-hollow body. This is my second hollow body bass. The first was a Gibson Mid-Town which I returned when I got this. I didn’t need the Gibson anymore because this one sounds and feels better and costs half as much. More than that, you can hear the hollowness. Even though my Gibson was hollow too, it sounded like a normal bass. The neck is big and cozy. It’s also great playing sitting down, important for me.. haha. It was around 700 bucks on sale. That’s a sweet price point for a lot of great gear I have found over the years and working at the guitar shop. I can usually find something nice for 6-700 dollars. If that helps. Though for years I played 2-3 hundred dollar instruments and they worked fine too. Just depends where we are at, I guess.

I hope you make some time for bass today. Thanks.
