Friday Vibes: Boots on the Ground. Dec. 4, 2025. (This one is cool to share. lol.)

Inspiration for the current project is in this somewhere.

It sounds so rad.

I’m a very happy musician with a release coming soon. Boots on the Ground is the name of our protest band. We write our own parts. We play our own instruments. If that wasn’t protest enough, lemme’ tell you more.

We are writing about what’s on our minds. There’s lots going on, lots to chew on. We’re chewing and spitting out verses about ICE, hopelessness, big pharma, and more. And that’s just two tunes.

I’ve had this song a few years. It’s one of my favorite tunes. That’s bkbirge.

bkbirge: bass and drums, vocals, lyrics

My friend, bkbirge, is a producer in Houston with a knack for older sounds. They’re perfect for BOTG. He knows old gear and has his own thing going on. No screens. Just that by itself is protest these days. This is the 70’s rock band I’ve always wanted. Pure tones, loose vibe, great guitars. So stoked.

Untethered. Guided by sound.

When you’re making music without a screen, a friend of mine said it felt like the training wheels were off. I get that. Feeling your way around with your ears isn’t as easy as computers where you can see a waveform. But I’m convinced the magic is there somewhere in that. When your ears make it, they get to enjoy it more. Music isn’t meant to be a feast for the eyes. Computers often make folks hear what they’re seeing, not what they just played. Me, I’m folks.

Keri wrote and sang this one. It was a few years ago, but it is still my favorite lyrics, until her new stuff Dec. 4th, that is.

Keri Kintner, lyrics and more, vocals

Not only do we have bkbirge on bass, drums, mixing, and all kinds of production, Keri joins us on this project too. Keri helps with lyrics and singing. Keri is one of my favorite lyricists. When we all wrote together at the studio, she frequently changed words around or took my intentions and made them sound better. If you ever like The Kintners lyrics, Keri’s largely responsible for many aspects to them. Not just the words themselves, but what they’re intended to say. She lines all that up often and makes it sound bling in delivery. I enjoy that because I sing better when one line is connected to the next.

Boots on the Ground

A couple of tunes.

2 songs starting out. See where we head from there. Protest has to happen. Happy to be a part of it. The sound from bkbirge’s studio, 70’s rock like Crazy Horse, Keri’s lyrics and singing too. I’m in heaven. “Pill Party” has been described as a sad fiesta and I’m all about that description. “Chosen” is about ICE and an ad we saw in Houston while recording calling them the Chosen. ugh.

The bandcamp site where our music will be Dec 4.

Bandcamp Friday, Dec.4.

Dec 4 is the last Bandcamp Friday of 2025. We’re on target to be done before then. Happy as can be to bring it.

We are all crafting with our hands with this band. Even the cover art, no screens.

The art.

Artwork was painted by my friend, Erica. She got the arts and crafts vibe of the whole project. As someone who loves Antiques Roadshow, it is a homerun. Boots, fireworks, purple mountains.. she got the assignment. We couldn’t be more pleased.

Trump Sucks is a jam from my solo outfit, Djembe Funk. All Songs have djembe in them.

Like, you know, “Volunteers?”

If I haven’t made it clear, I love this music. I’ve been a fan of protest vibes and rock and roll since I was a kid and my father put on Volunteers from Jefferson Airplane. That vibe is sensational to me. Makes me envision crowds in the streets. We need that, at least I do. Had to make it.

Got to write one for folks I admire here. Still feels great. When someone sings our songs, it feels great.

It feels so cool.

I have the coolest band ever. Very happy with both Keri and bkbirge and their jobs they routinely nail, hammer on head. I feel so fortunate to jam with both of them. I’m the luckiest musician in the world right now. We’re making music I’ve always wanted to make.

When I’m not scared to death it feels like my moment

return to home.

Been a great week. Not only is there amazing BOTG news, I got to play acoustic for a pop song in New York. I love doing all this stuff. Thanks.
