I actually love talking music, but that isn’t what Rick Beato does. I know. lol.
Many of us know music commentators or pundits from YouTube and other places. They’re happy to tell you what they like and don’t like. I like this. But I hate Rick Beato.
Rick Beato considers himself an authority on taste. I’m sorry, no one asked you around here, Rick. He comes off as information all the time. But he’s really an old opinion about how music is supposed to work. Newsflash, Rick, it’s not the same as you imagine it. At least at this level and that of most your viewers.
The video is about Sabrina Carpenter?
Before I watch him dog on Taylor Swift (which I do that too) and Sabrina Carpenter (who I love), I have to consider the source. I looked at everything the man’s touched on wiki . None of it sounds like current pop music. What in the world could he have to say about Sabrina Carpenter? He’s talking about him, not her. He’s not talking to her fans, he is talking to his. That’s just gross. So why is it a surprise he doesn’t like it? It’s simple, it gets views.
Key: Key to the key of keys.
Rick Beato has learned piggy-backing. He will go at popular artists and get views because their name is in the title. He didn’t get popular like he is now on his music, he made it on his mouth.
I am a music commentator my good readers would be quick to point out. But I’m no Rick Beato. I enjoy diverse kinds of music including Sabrina Carpenter. I enjoy working with artists across all genres. And not to put a fine point on it, I didn’t produce Shinedown so I really can’t say anything. But if I could, I’d say like what you like. Own that, not people.
About my journey…
When I realized funk was a thing with me, I got happy. I had music to explore. Stuff to think about. I do not want folks thinking about me, I hope they’re concerned with the thoughts coming out. This is the process for me. It’s happy.
Hey, Rick…Little jealous?
Rick Beato’s process does not sound happy. He sounds ultra-concerned with what pop stars are doing. Frankly, he sounds jealous. That’s not going to “win over” young folks. It’s not winning on this older one either.
As indies, we live outside the realm of pop stars mostly. It’s almost as if they don’t exist. They have their folks, we have ours. When they do clash, it’s because folks like me and Rick need hits, gotta’ feed the demon.
I still don’t do Swift, but that’s totally okay. I don’t judge the listeners. That’s dumb.
I still maintain Taylor is awful, tired, and not challenging. That’s not how I feel about most pop stars though. I love Sabrina and a host of others. And if you’re into music that isn’t challenging that’s totally cool. Have fun with Taylor. I can’t stress this enough; your taste in music is yours, not mine, and anything you like is fine. Just because I don’t like her doesn’t mean she isn’t good to you. A beautiful thing about music, fucked up nowadays. Like what you like.
It’s all in the jargon.
We say “own” when we get a good one on other folks. Back in the corporate days, I swear that term originated in tech support with games and arguments. If your content is an attempt to “own” someone, what’s that say about you? To me, it says you don’t have original content, at least when I’ve done it that’s what it was. That happens to be the same thing Rick puts others down for. Every accusation a confession. Let the guitar do the talking, Rick. You’re losing me.
return to home..
