Hey! Wanna’ jam?
A few times, I’ve been rejected in my efforts to strike up collaborations. I was told I don’t have enough spins on Spotify. I don’t have a Spotify, don’t care about it. I like music. I don’t see what Spotify has to do with that.
I think about the damage done by social media and Spotify. It makes me wonder what could be happening musically if folks weren’t counting their likes and spins.

What it means, to me.
Rejecting a collaboration because it won’t garner you the attention you desire is unrelated to music. It suggests that all of music is about you. And it’s not.
Just make a new Spotify? Are you fucking crazy?
I’ve been told if I make a new Spotify I’ll get more collaborations. You got me wrong if you think that. I enjoy compromising and complex decision-making. But my values are not on the table just so I can play guitar on your song. Sorry. Not sorry.
Musicians on the Spotify cross not only miss out on joining forces. They encourage other musicians to do what they do that makes them miserable. Stop the madness!
What do they always say about gambling?
It’s worse than lottery. There’s poker elements too. Being a musician ideally isn’t an episode of survivor. But Holy Shit, I’m reminded of that show a lot, as if it trained people. I hear talk of alliances and clashes. My eyes hurt from rolling. Spotify cashes its checks. And the world turns. By the way, the house always wins.🤷
Seriously, don’t listen to me if you twist words and meaning to suit yourself.
If I’m not popular enough for you to jam with me, I wish you wouldn’t listen. My songs aren’t for you. They are not to bolster your silly status positions made in the music world. They do not reinforce your way of thinking. I’d hate for them to be interpreted that way. So find someone else to misinterpret. There’s loads to choose from on Spotify.

If you memorize your stats, what’s that say about you? How much does that pay?
Folks I’ve met really into their stats are also, as it turns out, really into themselves. Some even make themselves their own numbers. They might stream their own music. Click on their own videos. Making numbers that go up. That’s a regression. That’s me years ago. Not going back.

I try my best to avoid numbers in music unless we’re talking fucked up time signatures.
I’m not sure any numbers at all have to do with making a song. After the song is made and you have a product, it might rack up some numbers. I’m on new songs by this time. I don’t have any numbers. I don’t like them. This is my life. I’m not in anyone’s race. I’m not keeping score.

In closing, losers.
When you tell an artist they aren’t popular enough to jam with you even though you want to jam with them, you’re the loser. They lucked out not having to work with you.
Return to home.
