We’re back and invigorated.
Vacation was fun. We got to record protest music on antique gear. I got to meet up with the fabulous bkbirge. We’re long time collaborators online. I enjoy listening to the man think. He is really good at making sound decisions.

How we did it.
We didn’t use computers or AI. The Doc (bkbirge) had beautiful old equipment and we used that. He played guitar, bass, and drums. I played guitar and sang. Keri sang. All three of us wrote.
Why we feel it is special.
Old gear requires commitment to learning it, and commitment to learning parts. Today the goal is often to make sounds so they are easy to manipulate in the computers. By taking computers out, we had to make sounds we liked then capture them. We feel that is special, especially given today’s artistic and tech environments. It’s more difficult than using DAW’s and AI. But it feels fucking excellent.

Why Protest Music?
Honestly, we feel that if you don’t have a little protest in you, or you aren’t out there helping folks chill, you might want to think about your role in all this.. not ours. Folks need to speak out. We hope we encourage that while speaking out ourselves.

When?
The music is being mixed. Shouldn’t be long. However I do have a “take home” studio mix of the song, “chosen.” Totally happy to share here. I like it a lot. It sounds very much like it did when we recorded it. Amazing how it needs less mixing that way.

Special thanks to Keri and bkbirge.
My wife Keri works hard to make things happen. bkbirge works hard at music. I am super grateful for those folks in my life.
more soon….
return to home.
