Give it to yourself.
I’m not a perfect musician or producer. I’ll be the first one to admit. But, I’m not bad. And a lot of folks have a hard time giving themselves that much. I wasn’t able to do it for a long time. Now that I do I’m busier. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

It’s about a journey.
One of the things that comes up with artists I work with sometimes is this “I’m just a musician” kind of mentality that doesn’t help when you need to see something through for artistic reasons. If you have an artistic purpose, it’s a lot easier to take the artistic journey required to find things out.

Key:
Important here: I’ve talked to many, many musicians who simply cannot give themselves permission to take the leap to artistic purposes for seeing things through. The listener may get something out of it, may not. But that’s not the defining reason for the song’s existence. It was just something the songwriter had to do. There’s real artistic purpose in that. I call it art now.
This was huge when it dawned on me. See, folks do not allow themselves things for one reason or another. It could be they’re afraid it might change them or how they’re perceived. It could be they think it’s expensive. I used to think since no one cared there’s no point. But I slowly shifted somehow into finding it in myself to see projects through because I felt artistic purpose in it. That’s all I need. Purpose.
Heed the inside voice.
Permission to go on a journey isn’t granted to you from an outside entity. It’s an inside job. You have to write yourself a permission slip, at least I do. I often say to myself, “art time.” Daily. I am giving myself permission to do this thing and setting aside time for things to happen.
I’m worth it. I even have self-worth issues. But I have enough music in the rearview if I start to doubt myself, I only need look at what’s been done already. Then I plow ahead. The new stuff is way different than the old stuff. But it’s worth a trip to Houston to record. Both Keri and I think so. So, we’re doing it. It’s a journey. My favorite. Mid-August, we’ll be in the studio for 9 days!

Don’t need a ticket.
You don’t have to leave your house for an artistic journey. For me, they tend to happen the more I slide into a learning mindset. The more I learn, the more I apply myself to music. Direct correlation. Fortunately, we live in a world where an adventure in learning something is possible with morning coffee ☕️.

Go for it.
Permission. It’s a key concept to me and many musicians I have worked with. There’s tons of “allowing yourself” to feel things, learn things, practice things, and perform things. It’s a new layer to music for me. Simply allowing myself to make whatever the f*ck I want with whoever I want to make it with. I’ve gotten into genres and met personalities and visited time periods I never would have glanced at by allowing myself to see these journeys through. It’s huge.

I’m here.
If you need a hand with music, drop me a line. I’m not expensive and I might be able to contribute. If I can’t, I’ll let you know. I’m not trying to take on work I don’t know anything about. I’m trying to be a contributing part of a team. I’ve done engineering/mixing/producing. I’ve worked in a variety of rock and hip-hop, also country-ish genres. Folks have been really happy with the work too. Let me help if I can.

Let’s talk.
The first part of the process is talking. So, kelly@thekintnersmusic. Tell me about a project, what you’re looking for, what you have in mind for someone like me. It helps to know what my responsibilities will be first thing. Saves time.
About money.

If you’re worried about money, talk to me first. Chances are if you play or sing, I might could use you somewhere else in a trade, if you’re into that. Otherwise I’m super cheap as far as folks like me go. It’s so much fun for me, I hate cost being the barrier to entry to good music. It certainly isn’t to listen to it. Doesn’t make sense.
See you soon.
Once you have permission squared away, gimme’ an email. I have a little time and my stuff is set up. Thanks.
Return to home.

PS:
If we’re talking just playing parts..
I’ve been playing a lot of djembe, fretless bass and regular bass, and Les Paul lately. I love acoustic guitar as well. Keri and I both sing. If you just need some parts, happy to check it out and see if we fit. For fun. 🤩 Thanks!🙏
A Song.
