Acoustic guitar vibes rule.
The acoustic guitar is my favorite instrument. Okay, well maybe pedal steel is but I’ve yet to get my hands (and feet) on one. So, I can’t say 100%. Acoustic guitar is the favorite, so far.
I’ve worked a guitar shop before. Came across nice acoustics. Bought a Breedlove and a Taylor acoustic while working there. They’re both interesting guitars.
The Breedlove was crafted from an ancient fallen spruce in Bend, Oregon. It was dyed with the local manzanita bushes. It’s my favorite acoustic. I’ve played lots and lots, still my fave. It’s numbered 35/50. Play it most days.

The Taylor offers something different. This is from the mid-90’s. It’s maple. It doesn’t sound like most Taylors. Feels fantastic and fantastically sized. Love this little thing.

One of my favorite acoustics is a Recording King “Torchlight.” It’s not expensive. But it rocks. Looks nice. I put a nice pickup in it, sounds amazing live.

It’s not about the money, or .. is it?
Acoustic guitars do not have to be expensive or brand named for me to love them. I close my eyes and play one. That tells me what it’s worth, regardless of the price tag.
If they feel good, sound good, they are good. Acoustic guitar buying, 101.
Having said all that, is the Breedlove the best acoustic I’ve touched so far? Yes. Was it expensive? Sure.
But you just gotta’ play it.
It passes the “close your eyes and play” test with flying colors. That stupid test made me want to buy it. You were warned.

As far as recording acoustic guitar.
Acoustic guitar (to me) is much like a vocal. I don’t use presets, I don’t have what I’m going for in my head always. I rarely ever mix it the same way. I don’t even use the same mic for it all the time. I find this approach useful. The sound of an acoustic can be vastly different from one song to another. That’s fine with me.

Everyone needs one.
My father bought me my first decent acoustic when I was a teenager. It was a satin-finished Ibanez Performance series. I loved that one too. Bought my kids guitars. Bought friends’ guitars too. I’ve even bought friends’ kids’ guitars. No regrets on any of that. Guitars are rad. Kids are cool too.
